Blijf bewegen, blijf fit!

Blijf bewegen, blijf fit!

Keep moving, keep fit!

Dear members, we would like to share the attached newspaper article with you. It emphasizes the importance of moving in these quarantine times. At the moment our karate school ki club.cool in Amsterdam and Monnickendam is unfortunately closed. The karate online project was set up to be able to follow karate lessons at home. This keeps you healthy and fit. Greetings and lots of karate fun, Patrick and Thérèse

An effective immune system

“If people stay at home, they will move much less. The consequences of less exercise can be very great. Sitting still is disastrous for our immune system. As long as there is no vaccine available against Covid-19, our defense is the only cure we have against this virus. “

More muscle mass

“The numbers and effectiveness of the T cells in our body, which play a crucial role in our defenses, increase when people exercise more. This means that a person who is sitting still is more likely to be more susceptible to Covid-19. The immune system will likely be less effective if one is already infected. In addition, the muscle mass of people who sit still decreases. “

Build stamina

“This also applies to the respiratory muscles. They are so important when someone ends up in IC. These muscles are literally vital. We know from the literature that a good condition prior to hospital admission is an important predictor of successful operations. Even if patients do not have a Covid-19 infection. “

Stay positive

“But moving is not only good for our natural defenses and for our muscles, but also for our mood. When exercising, all kinds of substances (including dopamine) are released that have a positive effect on our mood. We see that fear of contagion and concerns for family members and personal economic consequences of this crisis are increasing enormously. Then it does not help to sit down and gloom. “

The above text is a quote from an article of the NRC of Thursday April 9, 2020: “Exercise is just as important as staying indoors”, by Onno van Schayck, professor of preventive medicine and Maartje Willeboordse, sports scientist, both Maastricht University.
